Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas Begins Homeport at Port Canaveral

Ship’s 3- and 4-night itineraries are a cruise industry first for an Oasis Class vessel

Port Canaveral, FL – October 26, 2023 – Port Canaveral welcomed home Royal Caribbean International’s Allure of the Seas, the first of the game-changing Oasis Class ships to sail 3- and 4-night getaways to The Bahamas and the cruise line’s award-winning private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay.

"We’re proud to be Royal Caribbean’s partner in this industry first offering,” stated Port Canaveral CEO Capt. John Murray. “Our partners see a strong demand in our market for shorter itineraries on an Oasis Class ship. We are thrilled to welcome home the Allure of the Seas and look forward to delivering exceptional customer service experiences to their cruise guests.”

Over the past half-year, Port Canaveral has prepared for the arrival of Allure by expanding the parking capacity with approximately one thousand new spaces near Cruise Terminal 1 to cater to cruise guests arriving by car.

In maritime tradition Port Canaveral CEO, Capt. John Murray, extended a warm welcome to Allure’s Capt. Tobias Oster and Hotel Director Adriana Tibaudo upon their arrival to the port.

Allure, now a distinguished part of Port Canaveral's homeported fleet, stands alongside a lineup of Royal Caribbean ships – Wonder of the Seas as well as Mariner and Adventure of the Seas. Notably, Allure holds the title of the world's fifth-largest cruise ship, making Port Canaveral the proud home of two of the five largest cruise ships globally.

The ship boasts seven distinct neighborhoods, offering an array of amenities, including a thrilling nine-story zip line and two exhilarating FlowRider surf simulators. Additionally, vacationers can enjoy twin rock-climbing walls, mini-golf, ice skating, and a Sports Court.

Entertainment options on board are equally impressive, featuring full-scale productions spanning four stages – air, ice, water and theater. Guests can take in a performance of “Mamma Mia!” at the Royal Theater, witness daring high divers, aerialists, and slackliners at the AquaTheater, and even enjoy a spectacular performance by Olympic-level skaters at the Studio B ice-skating arena.

Allure also serves up a variety of dining and nightlife experiences, with over 30 restaurants, bars, and lounges like family-style Italian classics at Giovanni’s Table, sushi and hibachi at Izumi, American steakhouse Chops Grille, Starbucks and Vintages wine bar.

Families have ample opportunities to cool off, from the adults-only Solarium to the H2O Zone kids aqua park. The ship also boasts the Central Park neighborhood, featuring thousands of real plants, inviting walking paths, live music, and charming spots to dine and unwind.

Measuring an impressive 1,187 feet in length and 215 feet in width, Allure  boasts a grand total of 18 decks and 2,748 staterooms. The ship weighs in at 225,282 gross tons and comfortably accommodates approximately 5,496 guests in double occupancy.

Allure was constructed at the shipyard formerly known as STX Europe in Turku, Finland.

IT’S A CELEBRATION: ROYAL CARIBBEAN’S UTOPIA OF THE SEAS FLOATS FOR THE FIRST TIME

The World’s Biggest Weekend Reaches the Next Phase of Construction Ahead of its July 2024 Debut

MIAMI, Sept. 18, 2023 – It was a big weekend for the world’s biggest weekend: Royal Caribbean International’s Utopia of the Seas is now one step closer to its debut in Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida, in July 2024. The game-changing Oasis Class ship floated for the first time over the weekend, marking a major milestone and the next phase of construction at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France.

Known as the float out, the key moment in the construction of Utopia took 17 months to reach. The process itself took nearly 15 hours, beginning with filling the new ship’s dry dock with more than 46 million gallons of water overnight. Utopia was then moved into an outfitting dock, where it will be completed in summer 2024. Since construction on the next Oasis Class ship started in April 2022, the new vacation has taken shape with more than 74 blocks of steel that have been lifted and assembled into place. Utopia will now begin to come to life as its highly anticipated features are installed, from the longest dry slide at sea – the 295-foot-long Ultimate Abyss – to a first-of-its-kind immersive train car dining experience.

Utopia will introduce unmatched weekend energy across a combination of more than 40 ways to dine and drink, more pools than the days to count, thrills, ways to chill and more. Friends and families celebrating any occasion can create their ultimate weekend and memories with their pick and mix of new signature adventures and reimagined experiences, like newly designed resort-style pools, a new Caribbean tiki bar – the Pesky Parrot – a reimagined Izumi restaurant, now in Central Park, with a new convenient pick-up window for fresh sushi and Japanese street food, and al fresco dining; and showstopping nightlife and entertainment.

The ultimate 3-night weekend and 4-night weekday getaway will be the first in the revolutionary Oasis Class to offer short escapes when it debuts in July 2024. Every vacation will feature visits to Nassau, The Bahamas, and Perfect Day at CocoCay – Royal Caribbean’s award-winning private island – that will feature its first adults-only slice of paradise, Hideaway Beach, starting in January 2024.

Utopia will also make waves when it debuts in July 2024 as the first Oasis Class ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), the cleanest-burning marine fuel to date. As the cruise line’s second LNG-powered ship – following Icon of the Seas – Utopia will advance Royal Caribbean’s decades-long commitment to the environment by combining LNG technology with a lineup of the brand’s already-established environmentally friendly initiatives and features, from waste heat recovery systems to shore power connection.

“Hideaway Beach is a completely new vibe and experience that vacationers are looking for on Perfect Day at CocoCay. Everything from its hidden-like location to the exclusive beach and pools to the private cabanas is designed for adults who want a day just for them,” said Michael Bayley, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean International. “There are experiences for everyone on a Royal Caribbean vacation, and that’s at the heart of our private island and its popularity. Whether it’s thrill or chill, family time or time to celebrate, families and friends can create their ‘perfect’ vacation day without compromise, and Hideaway Beach adds to what continues to be an unmatched combination of ways to do just that.”

Tucked away on the northwest beach of Perfect Day at CocoCay, Hideaway Beach packs the best of a tropical getaway. For an entry charge, vacationers age 18 and older can celebrate, cool off and kick back across a private beach, two pools, 20 cabanas, seven open-air bars and spots to grab a bite, and more:

Adulting Beachside or Poolside

  • Hideaway Beach – From end to end is over an acre of The Bahamas’ white sand beaches and turquoise waters exclusive to Hideaway Beach guests. Vacationers can enjoy the beachfront views and breeze at any one of the resort-style loungers and umbrellas along the shore or on the in-water hammocks and swings while playing beach games and listening to the beats of the live DJ by the pool.

  • Hideaway Pool – Partygoers can turn up the volume on the celebration with all-day tunes from the DJ and the lively swim-up bar at the center of the action. With in-water seating and loungers, and poolside loungers throughout the heated infinity-edge pool, every spot is also the best seat in the house to take in the picture-perfect views.

  • Hideaway Cabanas – Just steps away from the party, vacationers can level up their day in paradise at 10 chic poolside cabanas that have a range of amenities like cabana attendant service at the push of a call button, a mini-fridge, floating beach mats and charging outlets.

  • The Hideout – This nook at one end of Hideaway Beach is just close enough to the buzz but carves out an exclusive, elevated experience. In one of 10 Hideout Cabanas, those looking for a more VIP, chill vibe can kick back at a heated infinity plunge pool – exclusive to The Hideout guests – and enjoy the convenience of perks like cabana attendant service, in-water loungers, an outdoor shower and resort-style seating.

Laidback Bites and Drinks

  • On the Rocks – The area’s new and unofficial lookout, this al fresco bar along the rocky shore serves up a vibrant scene of live musicians, TVs to watch live sports, games like pool and shuffleboard, and memorable ocean views along with refreshing drinks like frozen margaritas and mai tais.

  • Hideaway Bar – The swim-up bar at Hideaway Pool is the place to be and be seen, and with two levels, vacationers can take their drinks poolside or without leaving the water to maximize every minute of their island time.

  • Slice of Paradise – This all-new rustic pizza haven with a bar and complimentary food includes fresh-from-the-oven favorites, island twists like a Bahamian guava barbecue chicken option and more.

  • Snack Shack – A staple on Perfect Day at CocoCay, this new location offers the popular menu’s complimentary chicken sandwiches, burgers, fried mozzarella sticks, fresh salads and more, as well as shaded seating, and Adirondack chairs and tables on the sand.

  • Beach Bars – Rounding out the experience are two full-service beach bars located on both sides of the new beachfront paradise, so a drink is never far away.

The all-new Hideaway Beach will be the latest addition to Royal Caribbean’s award-winning destination that changed the standard of private islands in 2019 after its $250 million transformation. The cruise line has since introduced new experiences to the island, including an elevated beach retreat at Coco Beach Club and the reimagined South Beach in 2020. With everything from thrill to chill, experiences for kids and families – like 13 waterslides at the record-breaking Thrill Waterpark and the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean and The Bahamas – and now an adults-only paradise, Royal Caribbean’s upping the ante on vacations designed for every type of vacationer from ship to shore.

The highly anticipated unveiling event, La Presentación, marked the start of a new era, where the “Freedom to Dream” took center stage in a sold-out DRV PNK Stadium.

“Royal Caribbean started in Miami more than 50 years ago, and we have always had heart and passion for our community,” said Jason Liberty, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group. “It's been exciting to see Inter Miami’s success, including their recent Leagues Cup title, energize South Florida. “We always look for the opportunities that will provide us with an authentic partnership, and this one is a perfect fit,” said Inter Miami CF Chief Business Officer, Xavier Asensi. “This partnership makes total sense for all of us: two local brands with global audiences and huge ambitions.”

“Royal Caribbean and Inter Miami have won the hearts and minds of fans from around the world,” said Kara Wallace, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, Royal Caribbean International. “Together as partners, the possibilities to reach more dreamers and adventurers are exponential from ship to pitch, especially as we look forward to the arrival of the new Icon of the Seas to Miami.”

What I Learned About the Largest Ship In The World, Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas

I attended a Royal Caribbean press briefing on the Wonder of the Seas, here’s what I learned!

Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas is the fifth ship in the Oasis class, is the cruise line’s newest vessel, and has claimed the title of the biggest cruise ship in the world!

The Wonder of the Seas will be sailing for two months out of Fort Lauderdale and then debuting in Europe for the summer season and finally returning to Florida calling on her “home port”, Port Canaveral in November.

Here is what I learned about various aspects of this brand new cruise ship from the restaurants, entertainment, how venues changed, deployment itineraries, etc.

Mason Jar - A Brand New Experience

The Wonder of the Seas has a new restaurant debuting called The Mason Jar. Wondering what happened to the other southern style restaurant., PortSide BBQ, which is found on other Oasis-class ships? Well if you enjoy Portside BBQ, don’t fret, it isn’t going away from other ships!

The Mason Jar is a southern-style comfort food restaurant and bar. Designed by Royal Caribbean executives as a southern extension, with really great music!

The musicians are originally from California and are a country, Trio. I will be having brunch here later in the voyage. Stay tuned for my review!

  • Reservations are required; Brunch is 24.99 and Dinner is 39.99

  • Late night snacks are also available.

  • If you can’t secure a reservation, still stop by this brand new venue and enjoy a drink and the bar

A Royal Caribbean employee explained that the Mason Jar is going to be as different to Port Side BBQ as Chops is to 150 Central Park. (Chops and 150 Central Park are both steakhouses found on Royal Caribbean’s fleet.)

The Solarium

Originally, prior to the pandemic, the ship’s deployment schedule was set to have the Wonder debut in China.

Due to the weather and humid climate that you experience while cruising in that region of the world changes needed to be made to the design. The Solarium was built differently from her other sister ships on the Oasis class. These climatization changes were said to have become a new design favorite and we will likely see it on the Oasis VI (We do not know the name yet).

West Coast Operation

Q: When will we see an Oasis-class ship come to the west coast?

A: The hope is to continue to build out the west coast market.

  • Currently, the Navigator of the Seas is operating out of Los Angeles and guests are loving having this addition on the West Coast.

As described by RC employees, the hope is to get an Oasis-class to the pacific but it is challenging due to the ship’s size they don’t fit through Panama Canal. Would have to go around South America.

Galveston, TX- New Terminal will be able to support Oasis and Quantum Ultra Class. Construction is ongoing currently.

Oasis VI-  What we know about the next new Royal Caribbean Cruise ship!

·       will be even bigger than Wonder

·       will be LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) powered

Fun Facts & How Wonder of the Seas was Westernized

Wonder was originally going to be deployed for China. Adaptations were made to make the ships appealing for the Western market included:

·       The Mason Jar was originally going to be a hot pot restaurant.

·       The Vue bar- initially was going to be a massive cantilevered hot tub, Oasis VI is still in design phase and may see this.

·       Didn't have a Lime & Coconut Bar, she was retrofitted to include it.

·       Largest windjammer in the world.

·       Purpose-built bigger for the Asian market. But will continue to see an even largest Winderjammer on Oasis VI

·       Starbucks had to be retrofitted to be included.

·       Signage was a big task to change as well, (Take a look at the back of your Stateroom door, it still has some Mandarin!

How safe cruising is today. After an emotionally charged few years...

Families, and friends coming together thanks to the protocols from the healthy return to service. Guests do not have to wear masks although the crew is still wearing masks as a recommendation not a requirement from CDC.

Environmentally Friendly Vessels

Royal Caribbean is Environmentally focused in a number of ways that keep sustainability and ecosystems top of mind.

·       Every new ship becomes more and more efficient

·       Fuel usage vs Shore power. Ships have the ability to hook up to shore power so they aren’t burning fuel in ports of call

·        Limiting Food waste as much as possible- source locally when they can

·       Save the waves program- Encouraging guests to reuse towels if clean etc.

·       Oasis 6 will be the first LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) ship, this is the most eco-friendly burning of fuel for cruise ships to date.

Royal Caribbean Eliminates Plastic Water Bottles Across Fleet

Royal Caribbean Eliminates Plastic Water Bottles Resuming Fleet Wide Initiative

Prior to the pandemic, Royal Caribbean had a three-phase plan to get rid of single-use discretionary products, such as plastic water bottles, coffee creamers, sugar packets, plastic straws etc. Prior to the shutdown, the cruise line was nearly halfway through its plans to eliminate all plastics.

Royal Caribbean is now ready to pick back up with these plans and within 1 week’s time, there will be a fleet-wide massive rollout of no longer having plastic water bottles on board.

Plans for the resumption of this initiative have officially started and after a ship uses the end of its supply on hand, guests will see the switch. The goal is to further eliminate single-use plastics within 1 year of the cruise ships being back online since the cruise shut down.

Spotted Aluminum Cans from sister brand Celebrity Cruises. Photo Credit Doug Swallow

The initiative has already been spotted on ships within the fleet using the sister brand Celebrity Cruises bottles.

There will still be glass bottles of Avion, and Perrier, but the single-use noncarbonated water will all be aluminum cans.

Aluminum cans are recycled indefinitely whereas plastic can only be recycled twice in its lifespan.

Long term, looking into the future Royal Caribbean is aiming to include public fill stations throughout the ship where you can bring on board your own refillable water bottle and refill it without having to use a secondary cup. (Similar to what you have seen in airports or gyms that have a counter of how many water bottles they have saved.) Public health concerns are still top of mind, for the cruise line so they are looking at the best way to include the refill stations.

Bottle Refill Station Seen on Virgin Voyages

On my Celebrity Constellation cruise earlier this month I enjoyed the availability of these aluminum cans water bottles. I was also blown away that they were even handed out to guests while going ashore in a port of call. I found this to be an incredibly nice touch to make sure guests stay hydrated while we enjoyed some fun in the sun. They even continued to do this as they sent us off the ship with a bottle to go as we disembarked. I absolutly loved this simple kind gesture.

  • Round the Horn: Americas and Antarctica Expedition
    Dec. 10, 2023 - Feb. 11, 2024 – Three continents, 36 destinations, four wonders
The once-in-a-lifetime journey begins in Miami, the cruise capital of the world, and sets course for postcard-perfect Caribbean destinations – like the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao) – before heading to glacier-studded Antarctica and around Cape Horn. Travelers can take in four of the world’s stunning wonders along the way in Central and South America, including Chichen Itza in Cozumel, Mexico; the largest art deco sculpture in the world, Christ the Redeemer, in Rio de Janeiro – where they’ll celebrate New Year’s Eve – and the largest waterfall system on the planet, Iguazu Falls near Buenos Aires, Argentina. One of the most iconic symbols of ancient Inca civilization and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Machu Picchu, awaits in Peru, while sunshine and glamour will welcome guests in Los Angeles.

  • Wonders of Asia and the Pacific Expedition
    Feb. 11 - May 9, 2024 – Three continents, 40 destinations, three wonders
Guests will venture miles from the ordinary in Oceania, Asia and beyond on the cruise’s next showstopping leg. They can discover the beauty and adventure throughout the Hawaiian Islands’ world-renowned mountainous landscapes and black sand beaches before sailing south to Moorea and Tahiti, French Polynesia, for sapphire blue skies and crystal-clear waters. The thrills continue with an exploration of New Zealand, before a deep-dive into Australia’s Great Barrier Reef – the only living thing on the planet that’s visible from space. Pristine natural beauty in Bali, Indonesia, is soon followed by two of the most iconic manmade world wonders, the Great Wall of China and India’s Taj Mahal, and gems of the South Pacific – from Vietnam to Malaysia. Rounding out the expedition are endless possibilities in Japan, with unparalleled culture in Tokyo, street food in Osaka and the tropical beaches of Okinawa.

  • Middle East Treasures and Marvels of the Med Expedition
    May 9 - July 10, 2024 – Three continents, 44 destinations, four wonders
This expedition begins in glamorous Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and brings many of history’s greatest mysteries, myths and legends to life. Adventurers can uncover ancient sites and more world wonders from the times of emperors and pharaohs, like Jordan’s lost city of Petra, the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, Temple of Artemis in Ephesus, Turkey, and the Colosseum in Rome. There are also less-traveled places to explore, such as Greece’s Olympia, once a sanctuary site to honor Zeus and the location of the first Olympic games. The journey only continues to even more destinations known for their storied history — like Split, Croatia, and Cannes and Provence in France.

  • Capitals of Culture
    July 10 - Sept. 10, 2024 – Three continents, 40 destinations
The final leg of the Ultimate World Cruise is an immersive, cultural experience that begins in the Mediterranean and heads north. At travelers’ fingertips is the opportunity to discover Barcelona’s brilliant architecture, including Antoni Gaudi’s famed Sagrada Familia and whimsical Park Guell, and savor new flavors across continents — such as an indulgent lunch in a Parisian bistro and a dinner of tagine and mint tea in Morocco. Museums, theaters and galleries line the streets of St. Petersburg, Russia, while larger-than-life fjords await in Norway. Guests can reflect on their epic voyage in the geothermal waters of the Blue Lagoon in Iceland before visiting New York on their way back to Miami.
